Preußen Münster starts in the GFL 2, the second-highest league in German football. The promotion to the second league is a major success for the team. The history of the Münster Blackhawks is not really long, the club was founded only 10 years ago. Nevertheless, one looks back on a remarkable balance sheet so far. Not only did it succeed in continuously increasing the number of teams, seniors and juniors, quickly creating a hype around local football. Thousands of spectators usually lined up at home games of the seniors, especially at the city derbies against the local rivals from the Münster Mammuts. The promotion to the German Football League 2 last year was an important step. The German Football League has a long tradition in Germany, it was founded as early as 1979 as the Bundesliga. The GFL got its current name in 1999. Football in Germany actually gained great popularity elsewhere. Similar to the motherland of football, the USA, there were and are several leagues in Germany and Europe. One of them was the World League of American Football at the beginning of the 90s, which was later renamed to NFL Europe. Founding member Frankfurt Galaxy first filled German stadiums, 3 years later Düsseldorf Rhein Fire joined as another German team and magnet for spectators. So it's serious for the Münster Blackhawks next Saturday. In the Preußenstadion against the Rostock Griffins, it will show whether one has arrived immediately in the new league. Kickoff is at 15:00.
